It is a feature unique in the world that the jingles of the patented Kolberg Tambourine can be exchanged quickly and easily due to the removable pins. In just a few steps the musician creates his individual instrument distinctive in sound using a pool of chrome, nickel and bronze jingles. There are no more limits to the sound spectrum thanks to the possibilities of variation and assembly of the different jingles.

German patent no. DE 295 16 842 U1 documents the innovations of the Kolberg tambourine with changeable jingles and accessories:

  • removable pins for the jingles
  • the special treatment of the outer edge of the head for permanent thumb roll
  • the permanent thumb roll
  • attachment that neutralises stand vibration
  • the clamp holder
  • the rubber mounting pieces
  • the tuning and damping knob as well as damper that can keep the instrument in an inclined position for quick pick-up
  • freely suspended cross-shaped holder

Sound

Distinctive and individual sound spectrum through combination and assembly of different types of jingles:

Bronze jingles, hammered and hand crimped

  • full, warm, dark, sonorous rustling sound
  • great variety of sounds due to individual nuances of the hammered and hand crimped bronze jingles
  • sensitive response in all dynamics
  • especially effective amongst the full mf - ff orchestra sound

Nickel jingles, hammered and hand crimped

  • dry, succinct, medium bright sound
  • great variety of sounds due to individual nuances of the hammered and hand crimped jingles of nickel alloy
  • precise, very direct response
  • medium bright sound, assertive in the orchestra p - ff

Chrom jingles

  • delicate, bright, sparkling sound
  • very easy and reliable response down to the extreme pianissimo, also in the most sensitive parts

Natural head with special head treatment

  • Transparent premium-quality calf heads (Kalfo):
The head is glued directly to the shell by means of a special manufacturing process, thus avoiding plastic stripping or the hindrance of clips and tacks.
  • Special head treatment:
The edge of the head in its entire circumference is treated with a particular compound that does away with the need to wet the thumb for rolls. Directly across from the grip the head treatment compound is applied somewhat wider, providing a larger friction surface.

Plastic head with special head treatment

Contrary to a tambourine with a natural head, the plastic head tension is not sensitive to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. The instrument is absolutely weather-resistant, durable and optimally suited for changing locations - also open-air. The sound of a REMO Renaissance head is modelled on the sound of a natural head.

  • REMO Renaissance tambourine head:
The synthetic drum head has the look of a natural head and is glued crease-free directly to the shell by means of a special manufacturing process, thus avoiding the hindrance of clips, tapes etc.
A change of head (repair) is unfortunately not possible due to production reasons.
  • Special head treatment:
The edge of the head in ist entire circumference is treated with a particular compound that does away with the need to wet the thumb for rolls! Directly across from the grip the head treatment compound is applied somewhat wider, providing a larger friction surface.

Shell

  • Made from a single piece of multi-glued plies of European common beech
  • Absolute stability and light weight essential for ease of playing
  • Ergonomically formed grip:
    • Very good control of play
    • Comfortable holding and damping
    • The tambourine can be picked up quickly and noiselessly with one hand
  • Removeable pins with soft rubber coating so that the tambourine can be laid down in absolute silence
